LCLC is an innovative approach to couples' education.
By focusing on community building, engaging materials and activities and strong research, our programs offer a highly effective method of information sharing.
Community Building
We believe people learn best in respectful, encouraging and supportive environments. That is why LCLC programs place such emphasis on building strong communities among participants. This approach is unique in the field of couple's education, where experiences are commonly prescriptive or didactic. In contrast, LCLC facilitators are trained to build a “culture of trust” in groups, supporting and encouraging couples to connect, share and learn from one another.
Engagement
Participant involvement is a vital component of LCLC programs, because even the best information is useless if people aren't engaged in it. We use videos, card decks, a variety of group and couple exercises and group discussion to involve every participant in his or her own education. For example, every LCLC workshop begins with an entertaining filmed “talk show” segment featuring real couples from across the country discussing relevant issues and real stories in a candid, articulate and intimate way. This effective method is relatable and stimulates couples to discuss their own experiences on a particular topic.

Research
No other approach to couples education relies on such intensive, detailed and long-term scientific study of what makes relationships last, successful parenting and child development. The LCLC curriculum is based on over 30 years of research by Dr. John Gottman, author of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, When Men Batter Women and Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child, and 10 years of John and his wife Julie Gottman, a clinical psychologist, working with over 8,000 couples in couples' workshops.
“The best part for me was the group that we had. They were the most wonderful couples. We met a lot of cool couples.”
